Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
Welcome to Jalalle ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information that you provide directly to us, including:
- Account information: Name, email address, date of birth, and gender. Your password is never stored in readable form — it is processed by our authentication provider and kept only as a secure one-way hash, so no one at Jalalle can see it.
- Profile information: Photos, bio, location, tribe, religion, relationship goals, and other cultural details you choose to share
- Verification data: Selfie photos used for identity verification
- Device location: If you grant permission, we read your device's precise location when you use the "use my current location" option while setting up your profile. We use it to work out your city and to show you nearby people. We store the city, not the precise coordinates, and you can instead pick your location on a map or type it in. You can refuse or withdraw this permission at any time in your device settings.
- Communications: Messages you send to other users through our platform
- Usage data: How you interact with the app, features you use, and pages you visit
- Device information: Device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Match you with compatible users based on your preferences
- Verify your identity and maintain platform safety
- Send you notifications about matches, messages, and app updates
- Process subscription payments
- Improve our app and develop new features
- Comply with legal obligations
- Prevent fraud and ensure community safety
3. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in these circumstances:
- With other users: Your profile information is visible to other Jalalle users as per your privacy settings
- Service providers: We share data with trusted partners who help us operate the app — for example Supabase (database and accounts), Cloudflare (photo storage), Google Firebase (push notifications), Stripe and Apple (payments), Google Maps (location lookup), Resend (emails), and PostHog and Sentry (analytics and crash reporting). Each is listed in full in Section 8.
- Legal requirements: When required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets
4. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit and at rest, secure authentication, and regular security audits. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- Delete your account — see Data Retention for what we keep afterwards, and why
- Opt out of marketing communications
- Data portability — receive a copy of your data
To exercise these rights, contact us at support@jalalle.com or use the account deletion option in the app settings.
6. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete a message or delete your account, some information is kept for a limited period so that we can investigate safety reports. This section explains exactly what happens, because we would rather be specific than reassuring.
When you delete a message
The message is immediately hidden from you and from the person you sent it to. No one using Jalalle can see it again.
We keep a copy for 12 months, accessible only to our moderation team. This is because reports of harassment are often made after the sender has already deleted what they said — if we deleted it immediately, the person reporting would have nothing to show us. After 12 months the message is permanently removed from our systems.
When you delete your account
Your profile, photos and matches are removed from Jalalle. Other people can no longer find you, see your profile, or match with you, and your account cannot be reactivated.
We keep records of your conversations and of any safety reports involving your account, accessible only to our moderation team. We do this so that someone who has been harassed does not lose the evidence the moment the other account is deleted.
Safety holds
If a report has been made about a conversation, or if one person has blocked the other, we keep the related messages until the matter is resolved and for 12 months afterwards — even where that is longer than the periods above.
Who can see information we have kept
Only Jalalle staff, and only to review safety reports and moderate the service. Retained information is never shown to other users, and is never used for advertising, matching or recommendations.
We may also disclose it where required by law, or to protect the safety of a person, as described in Section 3.
Requesting deletion
If you want information removed sooner than the periods described here, contact us at support@jalalle.com. We will honour the request unless the information is subject to a safety hold or we are required to keep it by law, and we will tell you which applies.
7. Children's Privacy
Jalalle is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we discover that a user is under 18, we will immediately delete their account and associated data.
8. Third-Party Services
Our app uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and account storage
- Cloudflare R2 — secure storage and delivery of your photos and videos
- Google Firebase (Cloud Messaging) — push notifications for messages, likes, and matches
- PostHog — product analytics, to understand how features are used and improve the app
- Sentry — crash and error reporting, to diagnose problems in the app
- Stripe — payment processing for subscriptions purchased on our website (we never see or store your full card details)
- Apple In-App Purchase — payment processing for subscriptions purchased inside the iOS app. Apple handles the payment and tells us only whether your subscription is active; we never receive your payment details.
- Google Maps — used when you choose your location on a map. Your approximate location is sent to Google to display the map and convert it into a place name.
- Resend — transactional email delivery
- Sign in with Apple / Google Sign-In — optional sign-in methods
- Apple App Store / Google Play Store — app distribution
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by sending an email or displaying a notice in the app. Your continued use of Jalalle after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
